How to Wear a Wig Over Hairby A. Elizabeth Freeman
Whether you have a short pixie cut or long, waist-length hair, you can wear a wig over top without anyone knowing you have a wig on. The trick to wearing a wig over your natural hair is making sure every single strand of hair is tucked away. You'll need to flatten the hair against your scalp as best you can so that you don't have unusual bulges beneath your wig. A wig cap will protect your hair from friction. If you don't have one, use an old pair of stockings instead.
Items you will need
- Hair elastics
- Hair gel
- Wig cap or pantyhose
- Bobby pins
Put your hair into a French braid if it is longer than shoulder length. Divide your hair into two sections to make two separate braids. At the hairline, divide a small amount of hair from one of the two sections into three portions. Cross the portion on the left over the middle portion, then the portion from the right over the middle portion. As you work your way down the length of hair, grab more hair and add it to portion on the right, and then add some more hair to the portion on the left. Continue braiding until the one side of the head is completely braided. Repeat with the second section of hair.
Secure the ends of the braids with a hair elastic. Fold the braids up onto the middle section of the scalp and pin in place with a bobby pin.
Smooth shoulder length or shorter hair back with gel. If you have bangs, push them up off your forehead and pin in place. Tuck the rest of your hair behind your ears and pin up with bobby pins.
Pull a wig cap over your natural hair. If you don't have a wig cap, cut the foot off a pair of pantyhose and stretch that over your hair. Make sure you cut it so that it completely covers your hair but won't peek out under your wig.
Turn your wig upside down with the front of the wig pointing toward your body. Position your thumbs in the center front of the wig and flip it up and over, onto your head. Adjust the wig so that it is straight and your hair doesn't peek out around the edges.
