Cute Ideas for Halloween Decorationsby Shelley Frost
Ghosts and goblins are often associated with Halloween, but those images are scary for young children. For a more family-friendly Halloween, cute instead of scary works the best. Cute Halloween decorations are simple to make and leave your home looking festive and inviting. You can adjust your Halloween decoration ideas to match your home's style.
Halloween Candy Jars
Glass apothecary jars work well as a decorative container for Halloween candies, such as candy corn and the black and orange-wrapped peanut butter chews. Fill the jars with the colorful candies. You can also add vinyl Halloween stickers or paint Halloween designs on the outside of the jar. Tie a Halloween-themed ribbon around the rim of the jars for additional decorative touches. The Halloween candy jars look attractive on mantels, counter tops, shelves and other flat surfaces.
Artificial pumpkins that are sold at craft and discount stores create the base of this decoration. Paint the pumpkins any color you want, based on your decor or other Halloween decorations. A thin layer of tacky glue applied over the painted pumpkin holds the glitter in place. After applying the glue, shake glitter in your choice of colors in an even layer. Applying the glitter to one-half the pumpkin at a time prevents the pumpkin from sticking to the surface as the glue dries.
A simple grapevine wreath allows you to make a custom Halloween wreath. Spray paint the wreath orange, purple, black or another color that fits in with your Halloween decor. Spray glitter adds sparkle to the wreath. Use floral wire or hot glue to attach cute Halloween decorations to the wreath. Ideas include candy corn shapes cut from felt, Halloween ribbons tied into bows and miniature, artificial pumpkins.
Painted Flower Pots
These cute Halloween decorations use inexpensive terra cotta flower pots as the base. Paint the pots to resemble cute Halloween symbols, such as a jack-o-lantern, friendly ghost, scarecrow or friendly monster. Choose the base paint color based on the selected idea. For example, if you're painting a friendly ghost, use white to cover the outside of the pot. Allow the base color to dry before painting additional details.
